The Top 10 of CZW - January, 2012
Wednesday, February 1, 2012 @ 04:15pm EST

Each month, the staff at CZWrestling.com has been ranking the wrestlers of CZW based on their win-loss record, their place on the card, the crowd reaction they receive, any titles won or lost, and other intangible qualities that made that wrestler stick out from the pack.  Since its inception, this list has proved to be controversial; surely it will be very much the same this month.  This month we have added a “Watch Out For” section.  This section is designed to highlight stars that could not break into the Top Ten, however we feel will be on the list in the coming weeks.  Please remember, this list is not the official standings controlled by CZW Management.  Without further a due, this is the Top 10 of CZW for January, 2011.

CHAMPION – Devon Moore – Can anyone stop Devon Moore?  It is slowly becoming apparent to the wrestling world that Devon Moore is definitely an underrated competitor.  He most recently stepped up and conquered DJ Hyde’s “pet project,” Adam Cole.  This comes after Moore once again survived the Cage of Death.  He is currently set to defend the CZW Championship in Indianapolis against the owner of CZW, DJ Hyde!

#1 – (1) – Drew Gulak – We aren’t even into the election season yet, and most in the Combat Zone are tired of campaigns…  Especially the Gulak Campaign!  The number one contender ruined the party that the Arena Legends attempted to have at An Excellent Adventure.  He then slowed the Bulldozer to a halt!  Gulak himself is already predicting a World Championship reign to begin at the 13th Anniversary event on February 11th at the Flyers Skate Zone in Voorhees, NJ!  Could his prediction come to fruition?  Many are beginning to believe, despite hoping someone will finally embarrass Gulak and company soon.

#2 – (2) – Sami Callihan – Callihan simply put is the most talked about competitor in the entire profession today.  This controversial star has accepted all challengers to the CZW Junior Heavyweight Championship.  Most recently, Callihan made BLK OUT’s international traveler, Rich Swann, tap out to the Stretch Muffler.  However, what Callihan did at the closing of the Asylum Arena may find him in trouble when he competes at Super Saturday in Indianapolis.  His comments about the Extreme Legends that made the Arena famous surely aren’t sitting well with the Innovator of Violence.  So Callihan may finally meet his match when he takes on Tommy Dreamer on February 4th.

#3 – (-) – DJ Hyde – Despite Excellent’s best attempts to embarrass the owner of Combat Zone Wrestling, Hyde still left the Asylum Arena as the last CZW victor.  Like him or not, Hyde defeated the CZW Founder and cemented himself into history.  Now that Hyde is back in control of his company, he wants to add the CZW World Championship to his growing list of accomplishments!

#4 – (3) – MASADA – Unfortunately for MASADA, the Cage of Death was his undoing yet again as Devon Moore defeated him in the Combat Zone’s marquee match.  After taking January off, can the UVU Champion bounce back to his winning ways?  He does have one more chance to become #1 Contender for the World Championship at the 13th Anniversary event on February 11th!

#5 – (4) – “The Ego” Robert Anthony – After experiencing his first Ultraviolent Contest, The Ego, needed the month off from competition.  The Ego returns to action at Super Saturday to take on fellow Cage of Death 13 alum, Scotty Vortekz.  The former World Champion is looking for revenge as many credit Vortekz for forcing Anthony to lose control inside the Cage and fail to win the World Championship.  He, along with MASADA, does have another chance to regain what he feels is his…  The CZW World Championship

#6 – (6) – Greg Excellent – Many are hoping the Excellent could simply wish to run the Combat Zone some more.  The message boards and social media networks are still buzzing about the fantastic job Excellent did as “president for the day.”  People are also buzzing about the match that he had with Mia Yim.  However, the fun is over for Excellent as he must face the Psycho Shooter Drake Younger on February 4th.  Hyde must remember though, Excellent still has TWO more wishes!

#7 – (6) – Scotty Vortekz – Vortekz is another man who needed to rest up after leaping from the top of the Cage of Death like a kamikaze pilot!  Vortekz is definitely out for blood on February 4th when he takes on Ego in a grudge match.  Who can forget the site of the Ego powerbombing the Naptown Dragon through the glass wall of the Cage?  It was also recently announced that Vortekz will take part in the Triple Threat Match at the 13th Anniversary to determine a NEW #1 Contender!

#8 – (7) – Adam Cole – Despite not being successful in his attempt at the World Championship last Saturday, Adam Cole definitely proved he could hang with the Main Event level talent the Combat Zone has the offer.  But is it too late for “The Money?”  Has his young career already peaked?  Time will tell for the Panama City Playboy.

#9 – (9) – AR Fox – The People’s Choice once again wowed the audience when he defeated the athletic freak, Uhaa Nation!  But Nation wants one more match with Fox and he will get it on February 4th!  But it must be nice for Fox to be the guy other competitors want to defeat!

#10 – (-) – Eddie Kingston & BLK Jeez – Interesting tie at number ten.  Both men had a HUGE month of January.  Eddie Kingston went toe-to-toe with the hard hitting star on the CZW Roster, Joker.  In the end, the Last of a Dying Breed got his first victory since returning to the Combat Zone.  The man he shares the number ten spot with, BLK Jeez, may not have been in attendance at An Excellent Adventure but he still had a huge month.  Jeez has been in the Land of the Rising Sun representing CZW in Big Japan Wrestling, for the second time in six months.  It is only matter of time before these two men, with their tag team partners, square off in a rematch from Cage of Death 13!

Honorable Mention – (-) – John Zandig – The guy still has it.  The founder of CZW had one more match in the tank and was able to defeat the current owner of CZW, DJ Hyde.  Unfortunately Zandig couldn’t ride off into the sunset like he deserved to thanks to Hyde…  But being victorious in the very last CZW match in the legendary Asylum Arena was the next best thing.

Dropped Off The List:

(8) – Jake Crist – Unfortunately for the Wired TV Champion, an injury kept him off the final event at the Asylum Arena.  But Crist returns to action on February 4th in a tag match with a mystery partner to take on his brother and former tag team partner, Dave Crist, and a partner of his choosing.

(10) – Matt Tremont – Thanks to Gulak, the Bulldozer has fallen on hard times.  Can Tremont get back to dominance on February 4th when he takes on Danny Havoc in a Cage of Death rematch?  And can Gulak keep his hose out of these men’s business?

Watch Out For:

Uhaa Nation – Nation took AR Fox to the limit last Saturday, in the end AR Fox was simply too quick for Nation.  But Nation wants one more match with Fox and he will get it on February 4th!  Will the third time be a charm for Nation?

Mia Yim – Who would have ever though Mia Yim could have stood up to a MAN over three times her size once…  Let alone TWICE?!  But that is exactly what she did last Saturday for the second time!  Even Excellent said how she is “one tough b*tch!”  Maybe the Combat Zone should re-think women as competitors?
