The Top 10 of CZW - December, 2011
Monday, December 12, 2011 @ 06:56pm EST

Each month, the staff at has been ranking the wrestlers of CZW based on their win-loss record, their place on the card, the crowd reaction they receive, any titles won or lost, and other intangible qualities that made that wrestler stick out from the pack.  Since its inception, this list has proved to be controversial; surely it will be very much the same this month.  Please remember, this list is not the official standings controlled by CZW Management.  Without further a due, this is the Top 10 of CZW for December, 2011.

CHAMPION – Devon Moore – You can call him Mr. Cage of Death.  Since arriving to the Combat Zone several years ago, Cage of Death has been the night where Moore shines.  For the second year in a row, Devon Moore survives and wins the Cage of Death Match.  The only change from last year, Moore retains the World Title for a 8th month straight!

#1 – (-) – Drew Gulak – Love him or hate him…  Agree with his opinion on the direction of the Combat Zone or not…  Gulak outsmarted five other men to become the next challenger for the CZW World Championship at the 13th Anniversary event coming this February.  Whether the Combat Zone likes it or not…  A change is coming!

#2 – (1) – Sami Callihan – The journey to the Junior Heavyweight Championship has concluded…  But now Callihan has a target on his back.  Thus far, The Callihan Death Machine has been up to the challenge.  At the Indie Summit, Callihan defeated Yoshihito Sasaki.  Then at Cage of Death 13, Callihan defeated AR Fox in an epic match.  However, Callihan has a HUGE challenge on the horizon when he will compete in presumably non-title match against the “Innovator of Violence” Tommy Dreamer on Super Saturday on February 4th in Indianapolis!

#3 – (2) – MASADA – Unfortunately for MASADA, December 3rd was not the best of days for the International Deathmatch Superstar.  First he and Drake Younger fell to the team of FREEDOM’s Takashi Sasaki and K-Dojo's Kengo Mashimo at the Indie Summit.  Then the World Championship was just out of reach during the Cage of Death Match.  However, there is no denying that MASADA will sooner or later reach the top of the Ultraviolent Mountain.  The question is when?
#4 – (4) – “The Ego” Robert Anthony – For his first ultraviolent contest, Anthony has to be proud of his performance.  But he must have also realized that becoming the champion again won’t be easy, especially without his partners in crime at his side.

#5 – (3) – Scotty Vortekz – This has been Vortekz’s year.  Unfortunately Vortekz couldn’t cap off the year by winning his first World Championship.  But Vortekz cannot be disappointed.  This was a year that he cemented himself as a top tier competitor in the Combat Zone.
#6 – (7) – Greg Excellent – 12 months ago, the entire world was questioning Greg Excellent’s decision to rebel against the owner of CZW, DJ Hyde.  As the year wore on, the Combat Zone began to realize that he wasn’t crazy.  What a way to finish off the year, bringing back the REAL boss, John Zandig, to force DJ Hyde to grant Excellent THREE wishes at ANY time?!  The Excellent Adventure for Greg Excellent begins January 14th at what could be the last CZW event at the Asylum Arena.

#7 – (5) – Adam Cole – After losing the Junior Heavyweight Championship, Cole has yet to comment on his loss let alone compete again in the Combat Zone.  Which is why the Panama City Playboy has dropped down two spots on this month’s list.  Many, however, have faith that the former CZW Junior Heavyweight Champion will come back on the hunt for the CZW World Heavyweight Championship. Are we on the verge of another

#8 – (8) – Jake Crist – It isn’t going to be the happiest of holidays this year for the Crist Family.  However, Jake Crist has to be happy with finally proving to his big brother, Dave, that he doesn’t need him.  Cage of Death, however, may have only been the start of the war between these brothers.

#9 – (6) – AR Fox – He may be “The People’s Choice,” but AR Fox seemingly can win the big one.  The internationally traveled Fox failed once again to win the Junior Heavyweight Championship, however he didn’t easy go down.  What does 2012 have in store for this aerial artist?

#10 – (9) – Matt Tremont – The Bulldozer’s dream came true by simply stepping into the ring at Cage of Death 13.  Although he wanted to win a match at the big one, but not the way it went down.  Nevertheless, Tremont still defeated an Ultraviolent Icon after having his foot impaled by nails!

Honorable Mention – (-) – Drake Younger – Goodbye, Golden Boy.  Welcome back, Psycho Shooter!  After a brief sabbatical, Younger returned to Cage of Death 13 weekend on a mission to beat the respect into Rory Mondo.  That is exactly what he did!  What’s next for the Psycho Shooter as the Combat Zone prepares its return to Indianapolis on February 4th.
Dropped Off The List:
(10) – Azrieal & Bandido Jr. – Unfortunately for the Tag Team Champions, the only reason they aren’t list is because they did not compete at Cage of Death 13.  However, they stated on commentary they will accept all challengers to their championships in 2012.
(HM) – Mia Yim – Not even Mia Yim could save DJ Hyde from a lost at Cage of Death 13.  Because of her association with Hyde, she now dropped off the list.
So that is the Top Ten List for December, 2011.  Tell us what you think about the Top 10 List at our Official Facebook account.  You can even text us your thoughts via our Text Messaging Service!  Be sure to come back every month to see how the Top 10 List fleshes itself out, as the new year will bring new talent.  Who will claim the year 2012 as their own?
