The History of the Wired TV Championship
Friday, September 7, 2012 @ 05:51pm EDT

TOMORROW NIGHT on LIVE iPPV on HybridENT.tv there will be one less championship at the conclusion of Down With the Sickness.  Either AR Fox will retain the Junior Heavyweight Championship and retire the Wired TV Championship, or Dave Crist will retain the Wired TV Championship and retire the Junior Heavyweight Championship.  Either way, the landscape of the Combat Zone will change forever when Dave Crist and AR Fox compete in a Chri$ Ca$h Memorial Ladder Match TOMORROW NIGHT at the Flyers Skate Zone in Voorhees, NJ.

With that being said, CZWrestling.com has decided to take a look into the short history of “The Most Exciting Championship in Wrestling.”  In 2009, CZW returned to syndicated television with a new program called Wired TV.  Thanks to their partnership with HybridENT.tv, the program was available On Demand following the broadcasts.  Shortly after announcing the television return of CZW, CZW announced a tournament to crown the first ever CZW Wired TV Champion.  In fact, the tournament would kick off at Down With The Sickness Forever on September 12, 2009.

It was the initial Wired TV Championship Tournament that many credit being the showcase for the future CZW Main Event-Level grapplers, including Adam Cole and Drew Gulak.  Unfortunately for both those men, they would not be crowned as the first champion.  At Cage of Death XI, Ty Hagen (known then as “HD” Tyler Veritas) defeated his longtime friend and tag team partner Adam Cole.  It was that match that became the catalyst for their long time feud in the Combat Zone that eventually skyrocketed the career of Adam Cole.

The theme of the first season of Wired TV revolved around Drew Gulak’s quest to become CZW Wired TV Champion.  Little did the Combat Zone know, this quest would become a quest to “Change” the CZW “for the better.”  His quest for the Wired TV Championship eventually led him to defeating Hagen at Swinging For The Fences on April 10, 2010.  Gulak’s reign as Wired TV Champion became one of the longest and most memorable title reigns in CZW History.  Gulak would define what that championship meant to CZW.  For 14 months, it seemed like Gulak could not be defeated.

June 11, 2011 was the day Gulak’s world finally came crashing down.  In exciting fashion, AR Fox became the third Wired TV Champion in CZW history at Prelude to Violence (2011).  With AR Fox’s title victory, the Wired TV Championship instantly became known as “The Most Exciting Championship in Wrestling.”  Fox’s short title reign may have been the most impactful.  After winning the championship, promotions from around the world demanded and paid big money to host AR Fox.  Overnight, Fox became the most in demand wrestler in the world.  Match itself introduced the world to one of the most exciting aerial finishing maneuvers ever, the Lo Mein Pain!  The championship still holds a special place in the heart of AR Fox, as it was his first championship in the Combat Zone.

Unfortunately for Fox, the title reign was VERY short lived.  Fox would lose the title one month later at New Heights (2011) to Jake Crist.  Crist, much like Fox, was not finding much respect or success early in his tenure with CZW.  Fox granted him the match out of respect for his ability; little did Fox know that he would be handing over his title to him.  It was during this match that the Combat Zone was introduced to the jealous brother and eventual Wired TV Champion, Dave Crist.

Dave Crist celebrated his brother’s first CZW Title win as if he was the reason Jake Crist won it.  It was truly an awkward sight at the time which led to the brothers fighting amongst themselves for the championship over much of 2011 and 2012.

Nine months later at Best of the Best 11, Dave Crist used a C*nt Punt to defeat his brother.  For the first time in the title’s history, it saw a controversial ending.  Now its been five months and Dave Crist, whether it is liked or not, is still the CZW Wired TV Champion.

One theme should be common while looking at the history of the Wired TV Championship, it has made stars.  It has been every title holder’s first single’s championship in CZW.  Even the men who have simply just competed for the championship, have become major players in the Combat Zone.  Now on Saturday for the first, and maybe the last time, the Wired TV Championship will be on the line in a MAIN EVENT.  For AR Fox, this match is about revenge…  Revenge for the fireball that Dave Crist threw in his face…  And a little bit of revenge for the loss he suffered to Dave Crist’s brother one year ago.  For Dave Crist, this is about being the champion and getting the accolades…  Everyone saw last year when Jake Crist won the championship and the jealousy that filled Dave Crist.

With the anarchy that currently exists in the Combat Zone, the winner of the Chri$ Ca$h Memorial Ladder Match could alter the future of the Combat Zone forever.  If AR Fox wins, he will own the Unified Wired TV & Junior Heavyweight Championships.  With that may come some semblance of order in CZW.  However, if Crist climbs down the ladder with the title belts in hand…  OI4K will have the power to continue the anarchy!

No matter the outcome, Saturday Night will be a history making night…  It will be a night you WON’T want to miss.  A limited amount of tickets are still available for Down With the Sickness at the NEW CZW Pro Shop and will be available at the door at the Flyers Skate Zone in Voorhees.  If you cannot make it out to the event, you can watch all the action unfold at HybridENT.tv on LIVE iPPV!  As always, to join in the conversation of all things related to the Combat Zone "Like" CZW on Facebook and/or Following CZW on Twitter @combatzone #CZW.
