As we countdown the days to the 11th Best of the Best Tournament, we at CZWrestling.com have decided to introduce or in some cases re-introduce you to this year’s competitors. Today’s “Tale of the Tape” will introduce you to one of our West Coast competitors, Willie Mack.
Willie Mack has a similar history to former Best of the Best winner, Trent Acid, as Willie Mack began training at a young age. Willie Mack began his wrestling training while still in high school; however put it on hold until he graduated. Unlike many of his peers, his training at Martin Marin’s WPW Training School in Anaheim, CA led to competing in weekly contests. Knowing that he needed further training, Mack moved on to Bart Kapitzke’s AWS School in City of Industry, CA and began wrestling for the NWA sanctioned Alternative Wrestling Show.
After competing for AWS for such a short time, NWA Officials saw what potential Willie Mack had and invited him to appear at tapings of NWA Wrestling Showcase where he had the opportunity to face such wrestlers as Adam Pearce, Brent Albright, Joey Ryan, Chris Escobar and more. Mack also wrestled at the tapings as part of a tag team with his best friend and fellow WPW graduate Jerome Robinson.
Following his appearances on NWA Wrestling Showcase, Mack continued his relationship with NWA and competed for their Mach One Wrestling brand. Mack was instantly one of the most popular wrestlers in the group. On February 5, 2010 after defeating Scorpio Sky in a number one contenders match for the M1W Championship, Mack entered himself into a 3-Way elimination match later that same evening, making it a 4-Way. After Joey Ryan and James Morgan were eliminated, Mack defeated reigning champion, Australia's Bobby Marshall to claim the title. Since then, he has been taking on all challengers for his belt.
Later in 2010, Mack joined with Pro Wrestling Guerrilla winning his first match in December of that year. Mack's first big break came on March 4, 2011, when he participated in the 2011 DDT4, teaming with Best of the Best Alum, Brandon Gatson, against The Young Bucks in a first-round losing effort. On May 27, he defeated Kevin Steen in what was considered a major upset. Mack began a streak of defeating top wrestling, including former CZW star, Chris Hero, in the first round of the 2011 Battle of Los Angeles. Mack defeated Hero in a rematch on December 10.
Mack is now coming to the “big time” on April 14th to take his place among the best. Can Mack live up to the hype from the West Coast here in CZW? It won’t be an easy task as many know the Combat Zone is a much different place to compete in.
