"You may have to fight a battle more than once to win it." - Margaret Thatcher
2010 was a golden year for the current reigning and defending CZW World Heavyweight Champion, JON MOXLEY. After defeating B-Boy for the championship at our 11th Anniversary show last year, Moxley took on all challengers to his title. During his first reign, spanning February through July, Moxley defeated some of the toughest men in CZW.Nick Gage, former friend Sami Callihan, Greg Excellent, our boss DJ Hyde, & "THE EGO" ROBERT ANTHONY (formerly Egotistico Fantastico) all found themselves staring at the Asylum Arena's lights for a count of three.
Overconfidence can be a weakness as we saw at Southern Violence, where Moxley lost the most coveted prize in the Combat Zone to Nick Gage in a 3 way dance. Learning from his mistakes, Moxley won the championship again a week later at Tangled Web 3 against Gage and "The Ego" in the type of match he lost it in only seven days prior. Continuing to take on all challengers in his second reign as champion, Moxley went on to defeat TOD 9 winner Scotty Vortekz, Robert Anthony (yet again), Danny Havoc, Drake Younger, Homicide, and most recently Brodie Lee. Moxley even called out Dave Batista on a couple occasions. Challenges, which to this day, have remained unanswered. The message is clear: from fan favorites to absolutely detested to outsiders, Moxley will take you on and do everything in his power to take you down.
Robert Anthony is on a quest of his own. Spending 2010 turning from fan favorite to one of the most hated individuals in the Combat Zone, Anthony chased the CZW World Heavyweight Championship by defeating former champions like Nick Berk, Chris Hero, and Nick Gage. Anthony has even faced Moxley one on one or in three way dances for the belt. He has proven to everyone that he can make it to the dance. Yet every time the prize is on the line, The Ego comes up short. Considered by the CZW fans to be "The Philadelphia Eagle of CZW", Anthony finds himself facing Moxley one on one once again at Twelve for the richest prize in the Combat Zone. I reached out to Robert Anthony for comments regarding the upcoming bout and he had this to say:
"Entering the "Dub" as an unknown. A masked goof who was just fired by the WWE, and working for scumbag promoters in Joliet IL, I was looking for a break on the biggest stage in the east coast...CZW. I wanted to be World Champion.
I failed to beat Mox one on one fair and square. I worked my way back to the top, and this time it is going to be different. As Mox works day in and day out doing death matches and defending his title all month. I have decided to take this month off. February, I will be at 100% and well rested. Ask yourself this Mox. Will you be healed from Homicide? Will you be Healed from Brodie Lee? Will you be at 100% when you face Ego???
Things get old as everything in life does. Egotistico Fantastico was old and tired. Egotistico Fantastico is not a World Champion. Robert Anthony is new and fresh. Robert Anthony is a World Champion. On February 12th, chapter two in my life begins. CZW...you will have a new leader to take you into 2011; CZW World Champion Robert Anthony"
Championship gold and pride are on the line when CZW returns to the Asylum Arena on Saturday night, February 12th. In matches where Robert Anthony has competed against Jon Moxley for the CZW World Heavyweight Championship, Moxley is 3-0. Can Moxley retain the gold and make it 4-0, or will Anthony usher in an era of ego by defeating Moxley and walking out of our 12th anniversary show as the new CZW World Heavyweight Champion? Be in Philadelphia on Saturday night, February 12th to find out!
